Travel Diaries: Aruba

When it came to packing for this vacation I did some research. I already had packing cubes from Amazon to make my suitcase look neater and way more organized. Some tips included: making a list, rolling your clothes, packing extra clothes in your carry on (in case the airline loses your luggage), and taking photos of your outfits to make getting dressed a lot easier.

The photos of my looks made things SO MUCH EASIER. I’m sending many thanks to Jen Atkin for sharing this on her Instagram recently. It made my life a lot easier to see the looks and have an extra look… or two or three.

Once my luggage was packed, added 4-5 more items that I forgot, and my carry on weighed about the same weight as my three-year-old goddaughter I was ready for Aruba.

This was a family vacation so I didn’t venture too far around, I was also craving some major decompressing time. We stayed at the Surf Club Marriot and everything we could ask for was here – pool, lazy river, hot tub, slide and most importantly a beautiful beach. Any tropical vacation (or any vacation for that matter) needs to have a beautiful beach.

Growing up I lived around the corner from a beach, yes it was that far south in Brooklyn. It’s what I knew and what I loved.

You can walk along the beach to visit different restaurants and hotels, it is also very safe.

Now that we have all of that covered, let’s move onto the most important part of this post: THE OUTFITS.

Our first full day involved the pool and the beach. My hair was not having it, so I pulled it back in a bun. I went with this super comfortable jumpsuit from Aerie. It’s stretchy, breathable and has pockets. I’m wearing a size medium with flat sandals from Target.

The next day I wore one of my favorite new bikinis. I had initially purchased this for my Miami trip but I wanted to get more use out of it rather than just for a pool party. The coral color looked stunning against the beautiful blue water in Aruba.

My sunglasses are from Aerie, I picked these up as a 2 for $20 deal…. and because I have a sunglasses addiction.

The coverup I wore with this look (and for other days) is from Amazon. I got this in a size medium since I didn’t want it to be super fitted and comfortable enough to wear in case I got sunburn ya know?

Later that evening, like a lunatic I decided it was a great idea to go to the gym. Most of my time was spent playing with my little cousins, it’s an all-day workout class I signed up for 7 days straight. But it wasn’t enough sweat. So I checked out the gym for a quick cardio session wearing this look from Fabletics. Beach hair and all I worked out!

This striped bikini from Abercrombie & Fitch was a fun purchase this year. I’m slowly rotating out bikinis I purchased about 10 years ago and painfully getting rid of. I love how the direction of the stripes are flattering for the bottoms, I always keep this in mind when shopping for bikinis. Since my hips are bigger then my chest any pattern will make me look bigger. I prefer to wear a patterned top and a solid bottom. This set was an exception to the rule.

I paired it with these sunglasses from Amazon. These were my go to’s for many days..

Most of my looks were either bikinis or night out style outfits. It’s incredibly hard to take photos out in public with 3 kids so I opted to use the balcony of my room so I hope you enjoy my photo sessions:

This was a VERY EXTRA beach look. If you didn’t know that Aruba was near the equator, well now you do. After excessive sun I preferred/needed to be covered up. My bikini is from Target and my favorite color – black. This mesh stripe style bottom went perfectly with this black sarong from ASOS. The oversized hat is also from Target and an absolute necessity when it comes from hiding from the sun. Oh, and these sunnies aren’t Celine’s…. a great dupe from Aerie!

Now on to the night looks…

Matching sets are easy, you don’t have to think too much about them… which is what I need in life. This matching set is from Abercrombie – I’m wearing a size small top and a size medium bottoms.

I really went for it with this look. This top is from Zara (sold out, similar top from Zara here) and I had no idea what I was going to wear it with or to when I purchased it. I figured it would be fun for vacation! Pairing it with this denim skirt from American Eagle (last season, similar pair from AE here) it was such a fun vacation look. I have these platform sandals from Target on but you can wear a neutral color if you prefer… I just view black as a neutral at this point😜

My final look of the trip was this bright coral romper from Vici Dolls. Obviously, I love the color coral this summer for vacation and events… I’m still wearing white and black on the daily! My necklace is from Forever 21 and was super fitting for my tropical vacation. I paired this look with my go-to Amazon shoes for my trips this year.

What’s your favorite vacation look?

Xx Sarah
